Who?
This wonderful artwork is made by Karl Stanley Benjamin who was one of the most popular American Abstract Painter. He had named this fabulous art work as "#9" which is part of his unknown title series. Karl Benjamin had been painted this art work with an oil on canvas, in 1963. Now it's located in "D. Wigmore Fine Art, Inc" with his 2 pieces of art works; "#2" & "#36". What?
Since this gorgeous art work is part of an abstract art, it actually does't tell a story at all. However I interpret this abstract art work as a death of John Kennedy, because it came out to the world officially in a same year of John Kennedy's death, which was 1963. Formal Qualities?
Since the hard and smooth line is the biggest characteristic thing in Hard-edge Painting, this piece of work also has included nice and smooth line in it. Basically, the oil paint that Karl Benjamin had used give me very soft and classy impression with extremely harmonious colors as well. Especially I love how he created unusual type of shapes with impressive colors. The way how Karl Benjamin had painted is actually amazing, because it makes the audience to think deeply to figure out what kind of message it has contained, which is very successful thing to make from an Abstraction. |
